Update from Lizzie – 17/10/18

I can confirm we will be meeting at 2409 Halton Sqn for 9.30am on the Saturday morning for tea/coffee and biscuits. At 10.00 we will be leaving the sqn to walk down to the cemetery. If you are planning to attend please can you let me know in advance via a PM as I have information to pass on with regards the day

From Lizzie Chisholm

Ok, just a heads up. We are laying Poppy Crosses at St Michaels and All Angels on Saturday 20th October. We will be meeting at 2409 Halton Sqn for 9.30am on the Saturday morning for tea/coffee and biscuits. At 10.00 we will be leaving the sqn to walk down the road to the local church.
We have 312 crosses to lay in addition to 4 requests. We also have special Polish messages on crosses to lay.
We have also arranged for OC Herts and Bucks Wing to help on the day, Wing Commander Mat Oram.
This is far the largest amount of crosses we are laying in one day so to have any riders help would be brilliant as in cadets, riders ( Serving members and those who have been released on bail following completion of service ! ), Wing Commander, Sqn OC, WO, Sgt and little old me.
All communication should be directly with me (Linky Thing) for the day. Would be fab to see the riders.

Oct 27 @ 09:00 – 13:00
The Deddington branch of the RBL will have a stall at the farmers market for the poppy appeal. We have volunteers to man it on the day.
It has been suggested that it would be a good opportunity to have one or two of your riders present to see if they could generate some interest with the bikers in Deddington toward the Legion riders. They would not be selling poppies, we just hope they could help get some interest going with our local bikers.
Would you be able to get someone to attend, I know this is the poppy week but as I say they will not be expected to sell poppies, just represent the Legion riders

The Anniversary of:-

Royal British Legion RIDERS Branch Inaugural Meeting At Cheltenham Branch, St. Anne’s Road Cheltenham, Glos. on 27th November 2004

In July 2004 a meeting took place at The Royal British Legion Village to discuss the possibility of an ex-services motorcycle club becoming an official branch of the RBL.

Circumstances took over and this idea was discarded but not forgotten. In late August, Paul Pollard and Graham Barber decided to resurrect the idea and approached some of those who were at the first meeting. The Legion was contacted again with a clear way ahead and an informal meeting was set up in November at RBL Cheltenham where the 14 original members met to discuss how to proceed and to form a committee, 12 volunteered for the first Riders Committee. It was at this meeting that we formally decided on our name and an adapted set of Branch Byelaws. At the end of this informal meeting, the official inaugural meeting took place and ‘The Riders’ were officially formed.

Repatriation Notification – Taken From Oxon County Council

We have been advised by RAF Brize Norton that the Repatriation of Lt Steven Clark, UK MCC Bahrain Royal Navy will take place on Tuesday 18th December 2018.

The aircraft will land at approx 1.30pm. It is estimated that the cortege will pass the Memorial Garden at approximately 3pm, reaching the John Radcliffe Hospital approximately 4pm

Norton Way will be closed from approx. 1.30pm, whilst Station Road, Brize Norton, will be closed for approximately 10 minutes once the cortege leaves Britannia Gate at RAF Brize Norton.

There will be road closures in place at the Marston Ferry Road / Cherwell Drive Junction, Marston Road / Cherwell Drive Junction, and at the mini roundabout by the entrance to the John Radcliffe Hospital. Please expect severe delays in this area whilst the road closures are in operation.

The weather forecast for Tuesday is expected to be heavy rain with a fresh breeze.

Riders Branch RV is the Sports Pavillion just up from the Memorial Garden, Norton Way, at around 14:00hrs to14:30hrs, This gives us enough time, & in case the Repatriation runs early, to move en masse to the Memorial Garden flag pole. If times are right when released.

The RV is chosen for those who wish to Stand along side the Fallens Families, Their Friends, Their Comrades, & those of us from the General Public who may wish to show our Respects & our Support.
