You are cordially invited to participate in this year’s Veterans’ event to recognise the invaluable contribution of men and women from the Borough who have served their country at home and abroad. The event will take place on Friday 13 September 2019.
We are delighted that The Veterans’ Parade will be led by the Band of the Royal Irish Regiment, leaving the Royal British Legion, Court Square, Newtownards at 7.00 pm to arrive at Conway Square at approximately 7.15 pm where the Band will Beat Retreat.
It is envisaged that the Parade will follow the following route:-

The return Parade will follow a route from Conway Square-Mill Street-Gibson’s Lane-Regent Street-Frances Street-Castle Place-Castle Street-Court Square.
At Conway Square, the Parade will be received by the Lord Lieutenant of the County of Down, the Mayor of Ards and North Down, Aldermen and Councillors of Ards and North Down Borough Council, along with other distinguished guests. It is anticipated that the public will come out in large numbers to support local veterans and enjoy the spectacle.

The Anniversary of:-

Royal British Legion RIDERS Branch Inaugural Meeting At Cheltenham Branch, St. Anne’s Road Cheltenham, Glos. on 27th November 2004

In July 2004 a meeting took place at The Royal British Legion Village to discuss the possibility of an ex-services motorcycle club becoming an official branch of the RBL.

Circumstances took over and this idea was discarded but not forgotten. In late August, Paul Pollard and Graham Barber decided to resurrect the idea and approached some of those who were at the first meeting. The Legion was contacted again with a clear way ahead and an informal meeting was set up in November at RBL Cheltenham where the 14 original members met to discuss how to proceed and to form a committee, 12 volunteered for the first Riders Committee. It was at this meeting that we formally decided on our name and an adapted set of Branch Byelaws. At the end of this informal meeting, the official inaugural meeting took place and ‘The Riders’ were officially formed.
