Veterans Parade, N’Ards. 13 / 09 / 19
Sep 13 @ 18:00 – 21:00

I would suggest an RV at Conway Square @ 1800hrs park the Bikes, walk to parade start at RBL N’Ards. Court Sq.
1 or 2 members to remain with the Bikes.

You are cordially invited to participate in this year’s Veterans’ event to recognise the invaluable contribution of men and women from the Borough who have served their country at home and abroad. The event will take place on Friday 13 September 2019.
We are delighted that The Veterans’ Parade will be led by the Band of the Royal Irish Regiment, leaving the Royal British Legion, Court Square, Newtownards at 7.00 pm to arrive at Conway Square at approximately 7.15 pm where the Band will Beat Retreat.
It is envisaged that the Parade will follow the following route:-
Court Square-Court Street-Old Cross Street-High Street-Conway Square
The return Parade will follow a route from Conway Square-Mill Street-Gibson’s Lane-Regent Street-Frances Street-Castle Place-Castle Street-Court Square.
At Conway Square, the Parade will be received by the Lord Lieutenant of the County of Down, the Mayor of Ards and North Down, Aldermen and Councillors of Ards and North Down Borough Council, along with other distinguished guests. It is anticipated that the public will come out in large numbers to support local veterans and enjoy the spectacle.
You are also invited to bring your association standards to the event.
Those on Parade are thereafter invited to the Newtownards British Legion Halls for refreshments.
Yours faithfully
Jeanette

Poppy Collection Day Forestside Belfast

Oxon – Abingdon Poppy Launch
Oct 26 @ 09:30 – 15:30

Once again we have been asked to support the Abingdon Poppy launch on 26th October.

This year they are going to have the big poppy rowed down the river (followed by other boats) by the sea cadets.

They would like it to be collected by a Biker and ridden around the outskirts of the town before being paraded into the market place by the Army and Sea Cadets.

Jess,  our CFR, has managed to get this space, for the second year running, from the Westgate Centre who have a Policy of NO Charities. Well done to Jess.

Bikes will need to be in place at 10:45 and NO further movement until 17:00 when the centre closes.  I am trying to investigate pushing bikes in and out to allow members to arrive later / leave early on a shift system.

For those who just wish to help out, Westgate Parking is free for motorcycles.

The Anniversary of:-

Royal British Legion RIDERS Branch Inaugural Meeting At Cheltenham Branch, St. Anne’s Road Cheltenham, Glos. on 27th November 2004

In July 2004 a meeting took place at The Royal British Legion Village to discuss the possibility of an ex-services motorcycle club becoming an official branch of the RBL.

Circumstances took over and this idea was discarded but not forgotten. In late August, Paul Pollard and Graham Barber decided to resurrect the idea and approached some of those who were at the first meeting. The Legion was contacted again with a clear way ahead and an informal meeting was set up in November at RBL Cheltenham where the 14 original members met to discuss how to proceed and to form a committee, 12 volunteered for the first Riders Committee. It was at this meeting that we formally decided on our name and an adapted set of Branch Byelaws. At the end of this informal meeting, the official inaugural meeting took place and ‘The Riders’ were officially formed.

Note

As you are no doubt all aware, there is currently no County Representative for Oxon between you and the Committee.

I have moved on within the branch to take on the role of South Central Regional Representative and am unable to commit the time to both roles.

Therefore it is time a link was sought between you, the members, and the Branch committee. With access to the County E-mail, Branch Calendar and County membership lists to assist in the role.

The role is mostly about communication between:-

    • the members and the committee.
    • Third parties and the members.
    • Berkshire County RBL and the members / Committee.

Primary requirements are

    • An ability to get on with people.
    • An ability to solve issues / know who to request assistance from
    • Technically able to utilise a computer with reasonable proficiency.

The County Rep is not expected to organise everything for the members he / she is there to facilitate the running of events by ensuring that the paperwork is completed by the organiser and passed to the relevant authorities.

More information about the responsibilities of the County rep can be located in the Branch Byelaws (We have some? you may ask)
