Monthly Brunch / Ride
The Weather forecast has forced me to cancel the ride up to Herts 🙁
Therefore we will stay local.
All are welcome to join us for this social gathering. If you wish to just join us for brunch you will be more than welcome.
Note
As you are no doubt all aware, there is currently no County Representative for Oxon between you and the Committee.
I have moved on within the branch to take on the role of South Central Regional Representative and am unable to commit the time to both roles.
Therefore it is time a link was sought between you, the members, and the Branch committee. With access to the County E-mail, Branch Calendar and County membership lists to assist in the role.
The role is mostly about communication between:-
-
- the members and the committee.
- Third parties and the members.
- Oxon County RBL and the members / Committee.
Primary requirements are
-
- An ability to get on with people.
- An ability to solve issues / know who to request assistance from
- Technically able to utilise a computer with reasonable proficiency.
The County Rep is not expected to organise everything for the members he / she is there to facilitate the running of events by ensuring the paperwork is completed by the organiser and passed to the relevant authorities.
More information about the responsibilities of the County rep can be located in the Branch Byelaws (We have some? you may ask)

You will all be aware of the news reports on how the ‘virus’ is being handled across the country and the way that advice given only yesterday has altered significantly in that period not only from the Chief Medical Officer but also the Government.
Therefore for the health and safety of all, I have taken the decision to postpone this event to later in the year when we, as a country, return to some form of normality.

Ladies and Gents of South Central…
I would like to get together as many of you as possible in one place to introduce myself and to meet as many of you as possible. Also ‘cos it says I should in the branch bylaws .

A good opportunity for you to let me and the committee know where you think the branch should be heading.
I may even provide some sarnies.
Also a chance to ask questions of others.

“The Road to Peace is Paved with Headstones”
THE COMMONWEALTH WAR GRAVES COMMISSION
ITS HISTORY AND LEGACY
As we commemorate the many anniversaries of The Great War and The Second World War there has been much focus on remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This talk highlights the role played by those far sighted men and women who established an organisation, now known as the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, so that remembrance of their sacrifice will endure in perpetuity. We will look at the architectural and physical characteristics of the cemeteries and memorials as well as the underlying principles that govern their design.
In addition, we will have a brief introduction to the Commission’s presence in Oxfordshire and the surrounding area.
Dick in the last 5 years has become a ‘Champion’ and Volunteer with The Commission and delivers talks to local community groups; history associations and schools and escorts tours to the local CWGC cemetery at Botley in Oxford. Dick is delighted to spread the story of this extraordinary organisation
Deddington Branch will be hosting an Open Evening on Saturday 30 May in their Parish Church at which Mr Dick Richards of the the Commonwealth War Graves Commission will present the history of the Commission and their work maintaining some 1.4 million CWGC graves in 23,000 locations worldwide.
