Oxon – Wallingford Garden Party
Aug 12 @ 13:00 – 17:00

RV.  12:00 – Route One Garden Centre Cafe (Linky Thing).  Stands up 12:30 to ride in. If you require food please feel free to arrive a little earlier.

Wallingford Town Council will be holding a Garden Party in the Castle Gardens to celebrate the town’s very strong relationship with RAF Benson. There will be cake, fun, games, stalls and a brass band.

I have been asked to ask if the Riders Branch (Oxfordshire twig) would like to come along and show off a bit? As you make the Legion look considerably younger and more fun than is sometimes the case, you would be very welcome and you might even pick up a few new members.

Best wishes

Lynda

Poppy Factory Visit.
Aug 21 @ 11:45 – 16:30

Forum Post 1 (Linky Thing)

Forum Post 2 (Linky Thing)

RV and Parking for the bikes at The Rose of York Hotel which is about a 10 minute walk from The Poppy Factory.
I intend to make this the Main RV arriving from 11:45 for a 12:45 (walking) departure. Can I ask that you please purchase a drink ( tea, coffee, beer etc) for letting us use their car park?

Steve has been a little to busy to sort out meals at the Poppy Factory and has therefore asked that we make our own arrangements.

There will be light refreshments available at the Poppy Factory.

The RV will be “Rose of York” Public House, Petersham Road, Richmond, TW10 6UY and they have agreed that the bikes can be left in their car park for the duration of the visit. They do serve meals and drinks so please purchase something as a thank you. It is about a 5 minute walk to the factory from the pub. I have booked two disabled parking spaces at the poppy factory.

I suggest that you arrive at the RV for about 13:00 which should give time for refreshments (perhaps a bit earlier if you wish to eat) and the short walk to the factory arriving for the tour starting at 14:00.

Ian (Tommo) Thompson has agreed to be the contact on the day.

Update 14/09/18

A message from Denise Fitzgerald

Ed’s memorial service! Saturday 22nd September

Details for those of you joining us for the above next week.

It will start about 1pm, but some of us will probably be hanging around the cafe a bit before that. The service will actually take place at the RLC grove. The NMA reception will have all the details and can direct you to the right area if you get stuck. It is a short walk from the cafe so I have arranged a little shuttle car from the cafe for anyone who is not able to walk very far. Hopefully it won’t rain but I obviously can’t promise, so bring a brolly as it is outside. Seating will be available though. The service will probably last about 30 min or so. I have left some time at the end to invite anyone who would like to say a few words or tell us one of your funny stories you may have of Eddie. It would be lovely if we could have a laugh so please cast your mind back and share with us all about any memories you may have.

I thought it would be nice to meet up afterwards for an hour or so at the Alrewas British Legion (see below for details) where we can have some lunch and a catch up.

Looking forward to seeing you all

Lots of love
Denise

——————————————-

From Denise.

It’s ready!!!!

After all this time Eddies memorial plaque is ready. I have been working on this since he died last year, but due to the season, error in production and general delays it is now ready for unveiling. I know a lot of you have asked for me to let you know when and where it is going to be.

I have Ed’s ashes with me at home (that’s where he is staying for now) but thought it would be nice to have a place for family and friends to visit. Although I hasten to add you are all very welcome to visit my sideboard at home where he is resting if you wish at any time?

The RLC have kindly agreed to allocate Eddie a space in the RLC grove at the NMA for an apple tree which will hold his plaque.

On the 22nd September, a year after we laid Eddie to rest I would like to invite you all to a small memorial service at the National Memorial Arboretum (www.thenma.org.uk) where we can unveil it.

Please put this date in your diary. I don’t have any further details at this time, I just wanted to give you the heads up of the date.

So I know what to expect and can arrange something appropriately can you give me an idea of numbers. RSVP, ASAP please.

I will keep you updated with the details when I know more.

Looking forward to seeing some of you then?
Xx

Update from Lizzie – 17/10/18

I can confirm we will be meeting at 2409 Halton Sqn for 9.30am on the Saturday morning for tea/coffee and biscuits. At 10.00 we will be leaving the sqn to walk down to the cemetery. If you are planning to attend please can you let me know in advance via a PM as I have information to pass on with regards the day

From Lizzie Chisholm

Ok, just a heads up. We are laying Poppy Crosses at St Michaels and All Angels on Saturday 20th October. We will be meeting at 2409 Halton Sqn for 9.30am on the Saturday morning for tea/coffee and biscuits. At 10.00 we will be leaving the sqn to walk down the road to the local church.
We have 312 crosses to lay in addition to 4 requests. We also have special Polish messages on crosses to lay.
We have also arranged for OC Herts and Bucks Wing to help on the day, Wing Commander Mat Oram.
This is far the largest amount of crosses we are laying in one day so to have any riders help would be brilliant as in cadets, riders ( Serving members and those who have been released on bail following completion of service ! ), Wing Commander, Sqn OC, WO, Sgt and little old me.
All communication should be directly with me (Linky Thing) for the day. Would be fab to see the riders.

The Deddington branch of the RBL will have a stall at the farmers market for the poppy appeal. We have volunteers to man it on the day.
It has been suggested that it would be a good opportunity to have one or two of your riders present to see if they could generate some interest with the bikers in Deddington toward the Legion riders. They would not be selling poppies, we just hope they could help get some interest going with our local bikers.
Would you be able to get someone to attend, I know this is the poppy week but as I say they will not be expected to sell poppies, just represent the Legion riders

Union Flag Presentation
Mar 16 @ 13:00 – 14:30

To all travelling to the Flag Presentation…..

Given the current weather forecast for Saturday the Branch officers would urge members to use common sense when choosing their mode of transport. Obviously we want to see a large turnout but we would rather everyone stay safe, no-one will think any the worse of you if you turn up in a car!

BBC Weather prediction 15/03 @ 21:00

See below for RV and Timing details

In recognition of the continued selfless dedication by members from the Branch, who at extremely short notice and regardless of the weather turn out for the Repatriation of our fallen Service personnel, we are honoured to have been offered the Union Flag that flew in the Carterton Memorial Garden, into our safe keeping.  The Flag having recently been replaced with a new one.
