Union Flag Presentation
Mar 16 @ 13:00 – 14:30

To all travelling to the Flag Presentation…..

Given the current weather forecast for Saturday the Branch officers would urge members to use common sense when choosing their mode of transport. Obviously we want to see a large turnout but we would rather everyone stay safe, no-one will think any the worse of you if you turn up in a car!

BBC Weather prediction 15/03 @ 21:00

See below for RV and Timing details

In recognition of the continued selfless dedication by members from the Branch, who at extremely short notice and regardless of the weather turn out for the Repatriation of our fallen Service personnel, we are honoured to have been offered the Union Flag that flew in the Carterton Memorial Garden, into our safe keeping.  The Flag having recently been replaced with a new one.

The Presentation will be made by Cllr Norman MacRae, Armed Forces Champion West Oxford District Council.

The Story

“Jess and I had an interesting time on Friday morning at Oxford Town Hall, looking at the room in the cellar which for many years was used as a poppy appeal store. It is full of stuff, some of which is at least 10 years old but at that is at the front, there will be older things at the back.

Jess is arranging for a van to come from Aylesford to collect it all, which will come with a couple of sturdy helpers, but we will need a few more people to form a human chain to get it all out and safely on its way. I don’t think much if any of what is there is heavy (stacks of collecting trays and quite a few probably empty collecting tins mostly) and someone will need to shake all the tins as there may still be money in some of them, so it isn’t a task that needs muscle as much as a willingness to get stuck in for just an hour or two to clear it all. Jess can organise some lunch/refreshments for those involved as a bit of a very small, meagre, RBL reward.

so, I wondered if the Area Team might like to pitch in? There’s nothing like a bit of fun, purposeful shared activity for team building …

Best wishes

Lynda

Lynda Atkins”

The Requirement

A few bodies to help out in creating a chain to move the stuff out of Oxford Town Hall ready to go back to Aylesford for recycling.

Oxon – Abingdon Poppy Launch
Oct 26 @ 09:00 – 15:00

Once again we have been asked to support the Abingdon Poppy launch on 26th October.

This year they are going to have the big poppy rowed down the river (followed by other boats) by the sea cadets.

They would like it to be collected by a Biker and ridden around the outskirts of the town before being paraded into the market place by the army and sea cadets.

I am looking for volunteers for this event.

RV at Botley McDonalds for 10:00 Stands up at 10:15

This year we will be assisting Oxford County by providing a couple of Bikes and a number of bodies in Lieden Square in the Westgate (Accessed Via Norfolk Street)

Jess,  our CFR, has managed to get this space, for the second year running, from the Westgate Centre who have a Policy of NO Charities. Well done to Jess.

Bikes will need to be in place at 10:45 and NO further movement until 17:00 when the centre closes.  I am trying to investigate pushing bikes in and out to allow members to arrive later / leave early on a shift system.

For those who just wish to help out, Westgate Parking is free for motorcycles.
